Our Leonidas grinder has 4 grinding heads with 3 sets of diamonds on each, gong in a planetary motion creating an aggressive diamond grinding activity. Hooked directly to our Pulse Vac vacuum, very little dust escapes creating a clean jobsite from start to finish.

We get asked about preparations for concrete and if there is a difference between diamond grinding and acid etching... this photo below should answer that question...

Once the floor is all prepped via Diamond Grinding and all taped up... it’s time to get the epoxy and flakes down. At this point, all repairs have been made, the concrete is like brand new and has a scratch pattern in it to help the epoxy bond even more to the floor. This is why we grind versus acid etching inside. The benefits are huge and a professional epoxy applicator will have the equipment and know what they are doing. Like the old saying goes... Preparation is 90% of the game. But when combined with commercial grade epoxy, the best system and seal coats... all you have to do is sit back and enjoy the conversion and more importantly... the many, many, many years of durable performance that you will get from one of our professionally applied epoxy flake systems.

When we first saw the project, we saw an existing pad that had been extended to give the residents more space. The existing concrete had years of sealer applied and was smooth concrete. The new extensions were broom finished and different color. It wasn’t a nice looking patio to start with, but it had potential. Customers had brick adjoining the concrete pad coming out the sliding glass door so they needed something that wouldn’t create a height difference. They wanted something that looked amazing, was durable and would hide the expansion joints from the new sections added. Customers had seen our Rustic Wood floor that we did on the patio at the Bistrow 1912 and loved it.

So, upon looking at the patio and discussing colors, we agreed that a gray weathered wood Faux Rustic Wood floor would be the right fit for the space and to give them what they wanted.

Because of the sealer and the broom texture, we had to diamond grind the floor before acid etching and pressure washing the floor clean.
